1. “Bid” on the skeleton of the “Elephant Man.”
Michael Jackson was known to be very liberal with his spending, throwing tens of thousands of dollars on kitsch, putting up “Neverland Ranch” and filling it with exotic animals. Probably, the most bizarre item he would have owned if he had successfully bought it was the skeleton of Joseph Carrey Merrick, the infamous “Elephant Man” who died in 1890. Merrick’s bones have been kept in the London Hospital Medical College. When these were up for auction, Jackson made an official bid for a sum that has not been revealed. Other stories had it that Jackson made an outright offer of $1million to the London Hospital Medical College for the skeleton. Jackson later denied in interviews, saying that he was never interested in paying for Merrick’s skeleton.
BBC News (unconfirmed report as of 3:00pm Los Angeles): Michael Jackson is dead! ROD: cardiac arrest. He is 50.
