Those who associate gongs with the large metal disc and the loud sound it makes may be surprised that gongs are also used for meditation. A meditation gong has been used for healing even during the ancient Asian civilizations. Much more, these gongs have been used in religious ceremonious in various Asian religions, most notably Buddhism.

A meditation gong gives off a different, unique and distinctive sound when struck by its mallet, which is made of wood. It is usually made of flattened metal, and has three distinct areas that produce three different sounds. Each sound is said to have a different effect on the listener and as such can affect the mood of the listener in different ways.

The sounds it produces is said to help an individual attain a deep sense of relaxation. Using the gong to enter a trance or deep rest, it helps you enter what is called the alpha level. Meditation gong enthusiasts all over the world maintain that these gongs raise your awareness, while the sound itself is said to be the sound that is responsible for the creation of all things on earth. The sound can help one relax, while helping the energy to reach every cell of the body. It is the sound of a meditation gong that is said to penetrate through the relaxed mind and support the meditative thoughts that the listener is having at the moment.
