My Motherland

This poem, composed by renowned artist Fernando Maria Guerrero, explicitly depicts the true essence of loving a country; that is, with dignity, courage, and great pride. The recitalist clearly describes the Philippines as one of the most beautiful countries in the world (if not the most). He also represented the Filipinos as persons with “good heart” but sensitive and passionate in many ways. As clearly portrayed, the Filipino’s hospitality is one of the culture’s main assets. In relation, the poem also pays tribute to the “Pearl of the Orient’s” delightful and welcoming panorama such as its superb forests, splendid mountains, and fine seas.

To Manila

One of Pacifico Victoriano’s great literary pieces, the “To Manila”, illustrates the place’s lethargy and weariness. Here, he gives Manila a picture of serenity amidst the “tender songs”. The writer also symbolized Manila to an attractive flower blossoming in the canopy of its deep and subtle “sleep”. In general, Pacifico Victoriano relates the calm place as one of its own pride; a place that can arise from its deep slumber.

Teardrop

The author of the verse, distinguished Vicente de Jesus, characterized the teardrop into “drop of sweet and pure but bitter water”. It dynamically brings forth sadness and clarity to everyone’s heart. The poem’s basic theme falls around the idea of grief and sorrow; of how a teardrop can be an untoward thought. Without a doubt, the author’s figures of speech, such as “water of bitter unity”, “unfortunate grain of wheat”, “unsterile pollen seed”, and “candle of unpolluted wax”, have come to associate the topic with the different kinds of jewels of unhappiness.
